Express Elevators at the Danube Tower Vienna

The experience begins as soon as visitors enter the Donauturm. The modern foyer features the front desk, ticket and information area, as well as interactive multitouch walls with fascinating content about the Danube Tower. The express elevators then take guests to the observation deck at a height of 150 m in around 35 seconds.

The two express elevators travel at a speed of 6.2 m/s and take visitors to the central level of the tower in around 35 seconds. From there, guests can access the observation deck, the Turm Café, the Turm Restaurant and the Danube Tower slide.

The foyer is the central entrance area of the Danube Tower Vienna. Visitors begin their experience here, receive information about tickets, offers and attractions, and prepare for their visit high above Vienna. Historic design elements from 1964 are combined with a modern visitor experience.

At the front desk, guests receive information about admission tickets, online tickets, reservations, offers and experiences at the Danube Tower. From here, visitors continue to the observation deck, the Turm Café, the Turm Restaurant and the Danube Tower slide.

Interactive Multitouch Walls in the Waiting Area

The interactive multitouch walls turn the waiting area into part of the experience. Visitors can discover stories, puzzles and fascinating information about the Danube Tower, Vienna and the 1964 Vienna International Garden Show.

The express lifts are among the technical highlights of the Danube Tower. They take visitors quickly and comfortably upwards in just around 35 seconds. The lift ride is not only the way to the view, but already part of the Danube Tower experience.

The ride with the express lifts takes around 35 seconds. At a speed of 6.2 m/s, visitors reach the central level of the Danube Tower and can continue from there to the viewing levels and the tower’s restaurants.

Two Express Lifts for Visitors

The Danube Tower has two express lifts. Each lift carries up to 15 people including lift staff and provides a fast connection between the foyer and the viewing levels.

Since the modernization, visitors can experience the ride through viewing windows in the elevator ceilings. The views inside the tower structure and the light show during the ride make the journey to the top a memorable part of the experience.oment.

Viewing Windows and Light Show

The viewing windows in the elevator ceilings allow guests to look into the tower structure during the ride. Combined with the light show, the elevator journey becomes an impressive part of the Donauturm experience before visitors even reach the observation deck.

The Danube Tower elevator system was extensively modernized in 2010. By renewing the drive systems and control technology, the energy consumption of the elevator system was reduced by more than 40%.

Modernization of the Elevator System

As part of the technical modernization, the express elevators were adapted to meet current standards. The renewed systems ensure a comfortable, fast and energy-efficient ride to the top.

From the central level, visitors can access the observation deck, the glazed indoor terrace, the Turm Café, the Turm Restaurant and the Danube Tower slide.

Tickets for the Danube Tower are available online and on site. Depending on the type of visit, guests can choose from single tickets, combination tickets, annual tickets, group tickets and offers for schools and kindergartens. With a valid ticket, visitors travel from the foyer via the express elevators to the panoramic views above Vienna.
